She seemed startled to see me and quickly looked away. Her body tensed, and she took a small step back, glancing around as if contemplating an escape.
The awkward silence hung between us, filled only by the distant hum of traffic. I could see the unease in her eyes, the way her hands fidgeted at her sides.
Whatever she was doing here, she clearly hadn’t expected to run into me.
