Walking away from their desperate pleas
The conversation was effectively over, and there was nothing left to discuss. I reached for my purse on the seat beside me, slinging the strap over my shoulder.
Without saying a word, I began to slide out of the cramped booth. My father’s eyes widened in panic as he realized I was walking away.
I had heard enough to know that they didn’t deserve my help. It was time to leave them to their fate.
