Packing the Evidence
I carefully folded the document and slid it into the leather satchel hanging on my shoulder. It was the only proof I needed of my success, and I wasn’t leaving it behind.
With the contract secure, I reached for the wall switch and flicked it down decisively. The room plunged into shadows, signaling the end of my time in this house.
I stepped out into the hallway, ready to face the noise at the front door one last time.
