A Final Round of Care
The taxi was scheduled to arrive in less than twenty minutes, leaving me just enough time. I took the watering can from under the sink and moved methodically from room to room.
My favorite ferns by the window received a generous drink, ensuring they would survive until the house sitter arrived.
Once the can was empty, I grabbed the handles of my suitcase. The wheels clicked rhythmically against the hardwood floor as I pulled it toward the front hallway.
