Stepping out into the freezing night
I opened the front door and was immediately hit by a gust of freezing wind. The snow crunched loudly under my boots as I descended the porch steps.
My old sedan sat alone in the driveway, covered in a thin layer of fresh frost. I walked purposefully toward the vehicle, clutching my keys tightly in my gloved hand.
Behind me, the warm glow of the house seemed miles away. I had no intention of returning to that warmth.
