The Puerto Rican-born is not just a remarkable actor with a special gift for portraying mad villains. Joaquin took on other roles in the show business space as a producer and has also received attention for his works as an activist, particularly with animal rights. The star found great success in film receiving a golden globe and three academy awards.
Not many know this, but the 1990s teen idol River Phoenix was Joaquin Phoenix’s older brother. He died from an overdose in Los Angeles on December 30, 1993. The young actor’s death was tragic and abrupt, not unlike the untimely demise of Heath Ledger, who also made an unforgettable Joker. River found success at a young age in both film and television, and many remember his remarkable performance in the classic Stand By Me.
